Inspired by the book Novel Destinations by Shannon McKenna Schmidt, the Friends have been sponsoring day trips to nearby homes of authors, beginning with a trip to Concord, Mass. to visit the homes of Louisa May Alcott and Nathaniel Hawthorne. We have toured the homes of Mark Twain, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Edith Wharton, Washington Irving and Robert Todd Lincoln. In May 2011, the Friends embarked on a two week literary tour of England. On June 9, 2012 we visited the Emily Dickinson Museum and the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Mass. Our most recent trip took us to Salem, Ma. in October to visit the House of Seven Gables, Nathaniel Hawthorne’s birth place and the Peabody Essex Museum. Membership in the Friends entitles people to a discount on the trips. Click here for photo gallery.
