The Shelburne Museum is a fascinating museum of collections. Founder Electra Havemeyer Webb was obsessed with folk art and Americana. Her enormous collection includes 38 buildings moved to the grounds, including a tiny slate jail, a charming lighthouse, an antique carousel and the steamboat Ticonderoga, dragged two miles overland to its current location.

Their collection of over 400 quilts is the largest in the country.  Impressionist masterpieces including Monets, Degas’ and Manets, hang alongside American treasures by Andrew Wyeth, Fredrick Church and Grandma Moses. Displays of mechanical toys, hunting decoys, trade signs, weathervanes, farming implements and a 500-foot-long, 3500 piece carved circus parade are just a few of the museums’ vast collections. https://shelburnemuseum.org/collections/

We will be leaving at 8 AM from the Schenectady Home Depot parking lot.  Turn onto Watt St. off of the Crosstown (Rt. 7). Use the lot furthest from the Home Depot building.  You will see the bus.

Upon arrival at the museum we will enjoy a highlights tour and a ride on the carousel. Following the tour you’ll be on your own to explore the museum. You can walk the grounds between buildings or take advantage of the shuttle that runs a continuous loop.

Because everyone will be exploring the museum at their own pace, lunch is on your own. Feel free to bring a lunch from home – there are places available to eat – or enjoy lunch at the Weathervane Café on the grounds.

We will leave for home at 3:30 PM with an approximate arrival at 6 PM. There will be a rest stop each way.

Mail your trip registration and check to: Friends of the SCPL Trips, 99 Clinton Ave., Schenectady NY 12305. Please be sure to specify TRIPS on your envelope.  We are unable to take credit cards or phone reservations..
