Join the Friends on Thursday, May 11, for a trip to Hartford, CT, to visit the homes of two important American writers and contemporaries: Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) and Harriet Beecher Stowe. We will enjoy a boxed lunch at the Mark Twain House and then travel to the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art. The Wadsworth houses more than 50,000 pieces of art. We will have a highlights tour of the museum followed by some time on your own.
Itinerary
- 8:00 am — Depart from Home Depot (Watt St & Campbell St) in Schenectady
- 10:30 am — Arrive at Mark Twain House and Harriet Beecher Stowe Center in Hartford. We will divide into groups to tour both homes (located next to each other). We will also have time to visit the Webster Bank Museum Center, which houses Twain exhibits and a film about Twain’s life.
- 1:00 pm — Lunch (time approximate)
- 2:30 pm — Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art
- 4:30 pm — Departure (time approximate)
- 7:00 pm — Arrive in Schenectady (time approximate)
NOTE: The Mark Twain house has three floors and lots of stairs. The first floor is accessible; however, there is no elevator to reach the upper floors. If you prefer to avoid the stairs, a docent can present a virtual tour. Please indicate on the registration form if you are interested in this option.
Lunch Options
Please choose from the following options and indicate your choice on the registration form:
- Oven roasted turkey breast with lettuce, tomato, mild white cheddar and basil mayo
- Applewood smoked ham with lettuce, tomato, mild white cheddar and honey mustard
- Roast beef with lettuce, tomato, mild white cheddar, horseradish cream sauce
- Veggie wrap – Julienne of carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, pepperoncini, red onion, lettuce, tomato, mild white cheddar and roasted garlic balsamic vinaigrette
Each option includes chips, bottled water, and a dessert
Cost
$99 for members and $109 for non-members. Price includes transportation, admissions, boxed lunch and gratuities.
