Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library Privacy Policy

This website is owned by Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization headquartered in Schenectady, New York. Our online properties comprise, but are not limited to, all pages found under https://friendsofscpl.org and https://whitneybookcorner.org. This privacy policy applies to these sites and other sites, mobile apps, or other online services we operate that link to this Policy (collectively, referred to below as “the site” or “our site”).

Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library is committed to respecting and protecting the privacy of our visitors. This privacy policy discloses how we collect, protect, and use information you provide or we collect online. If our policy practices change in the future, we will let you know by posting our revised privacy policy on the site. By using the pages on this site or other services covered by the posted privacy policy, you are accepting the practices described in the privacy policy.

INFORMATION COLLECTION

Personally Identifiable Information.  At our site, we do not collect personally identifiable information from individuals unless they provide it to us voluntarily and knowingly. This means we do not require you to register or provide information to us in order to view our site. Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library only gathers personally identifiable data on our site, such as names, addresses, Zip codes, e-mail addresses, etc., when voluntarily submitted by a visitor.  Once collected, we may combine this information with other information collected from external sources.

Non-Personally Identifiable Information.  In addition to personal information, we may collect additional information that does not personally identify you. Other Information may include information collected:

Friends of Schenectady County Public Library’s partners include, but are not limited to, Google Analytics. Google Analytics is a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics uses “cookies” to help the site analyze how users use the site. Other information generated by the cookie about your use of the site (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on site activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. The personally identifiable information you provide is used by Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library and other individuals or entities who are involved in the operation of this site or who provide support for the Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library’s mission and programs, for general business purposes and for the purposes for which you provided the information. General business purposes include, for example, Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library membership activities, program participation, marketing, promotions, fundraising activities, and communications. The purposes for which you provide information includes our use of your personally identifiable information to process online membership applications, transactions, and donations, or to facilitate participation in Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library programs, promotions, and services. We do not sell the information you provide to us online with third parties.  We may share personally identifiable information with third parties including: (i) when the person submitting the information authorizes us to share it; (ii) when sharing the information is with a service provider in furtherance of our operations or the operation of the site, for instance, to process a donation or other transaction you make; (iii) to facilitate participation in Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library programs, promotions, and services, or to engage in fundraising, marketing communications, and promotions; (iv) to comply with legal processes such as a subpoena or court order or to otherwise protect your or our legal rights; or (v) for other purposes for which you provided the information. ACCESSING AND MODIFYING INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION PREFERENCES

Upon request, Friends of Schenectady County Public Library will grant individuals reasonable access to personal information that we hold about them. For example, visitors who have provided personal information to us may review and/or make changes to the same by contacting us. In addition, individuals may manage their receipt of marketing communications by clicking on the “unsubscribe” link located on the bottom of any of our marketing or solicitation e-mails. We will use reasonable efforts to process such requests in a timely manner.

CHILDREN

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 through the site. If you are under 13, please do not give us any personal information. We encourage parents and legal guardians to monitor their children’s Internet usage and to help enforce our privacy policy by instructing their children to never provide personal information through the site without their parent or guardian’s permission. If you have reason to believe that a child under the age of 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact us, and we will endeavor to delete that information from our databases.

SEARCH ENGINES AND OTHER SITES

Search engines and other sites not affiliated with us, such as google.com, may crawl the site and make available to the public publicly-available content and postings from the site. Our site may also contain links to other websites. Friends of Schenectady County Public Library is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other websites, and we encourage our users to be aware of such search engines and other sites when they leave our websites and to read the privacy policies of each website they visit. We have no responsibility for linked websites and provide these links solely for the convenience and information of our visitors.
