Volunteer

Share your love of books with like-minded people! The Friends operates two bookstores; sells online via Amazon and eBay; and holds two book sales each year at the Central Library. Many volunteer opportunities are available; membership is required:

  • Stocking and selling books at the bookstores
  • Book sale support — pre-sale setup, cashier, organizing
  • Sorting incoming donations
  • Transporting books from the Central Library to the bookstores
  • Adult program support
  • Outreach committee
  • Hospitality/events committee

To become a volunteer:

  1. Please send an email with your area(s) of interest to friendslibrary12305@gmail.com.
  2. Complete the online membership form and pay by credit card (or mail the membership form with a check to the Friends Treasurer). Memberships may also be paid by cash or check at Whitney Book Corner.

Newsletter Editor

Volunteer needed to produce newsletter. Work with committee chairs and volunteers to compile content. Must be proficient in Adobe InDesign and have knowledge of digital printing process.

Membership Table

Join us on select Sundays during the Greenmarket (spring./summer/fall), 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, or at special events. Promote The Friends and sign up new members.

Hospitality/Events Committee

Volunteers needed to arrange fun functions for members and volunteers — picnic, annual dinner, and special events throughout the year. If you like planning or helping with events, come join us!

Concert Series Co-Chair

The Beat the Snow Concert Series runs Sunday afternoons January through April, often with a holiday concert in December, at the Central Library. We are looking for a co-chair to organize and set up concerts, and introduce the performers.

Outreach Committee

The Outreach Committee provides books to local hospitals, nursing homes, rehab facilities, etc. Work with our committee to identify and coordinate possible facilities and subsequent donations. Moving and lifting may be involved.

Sorter/Transporter

Move book donations from the loading dock at the Central Library to the sorting area on the library’s second floor and sort books into fiction and non-fiction categories. Moving and lifting is involved.

Books Sandwiched In” Coordinator

The Friends is looking to revive the very popular “Books Sandwiched In” program and is seeking a coordinator. Books are chosen and presented by group participants.

Monday Noon Programs Coordinator(s)

Coordinators needed for Monday noon program series. Coordinators set up the McChensney Room at the Central Library.
